Centennial Parklands (Labour Day Special!)
Our Centennial Parklands outing along with some exciting October event news!

🐦
We have two events coming up in October! Check out our Outings page for more info!
Spring is in the air and with a public holiday we set out on our way to Centennial Parklands to do some well deserved birdwatching! We had a great turnout today and the weather was just right. There was some concern that the birds would be somewhat disturbed after Listen Out over the weekend but I they were all out and active! The lower temperature must have also served as a respite. We mainly stuck to the main ponds and garden areas.
Highlights include:
- A Willie Wagtail put on a show for us by dancing, checking us out, and keeping a close eye from a nearby pole
- A Magpie Lark was very friendly as it approached us nearly to our feet without any fear
- Seeing and learning about duck hybrids was fascinating
- Welcome Swifts and Fairy Martins flew right past us and circled us as they hunted for the insects (that we were probably attracting).
- Goslings (observed from a safe distance) fought off some Magpies trying to get a cheeky bite from some food around them.
- Multiple lifers for many birders amongst us that day!
- Constantly amazed and grateful for the more experienced members' knowledge about local birds (thanks Taysi & Click!)
