Waterfall to Palona Cave Hike, Royal NP
On a crisp Sunday morning (Sep 3), a few of us ventured out to the Royal National Park to complete the Waterfall to Palona Cave trail. This was a long (20km total) and varied track that I personally really enjoyed!
Some birding and general tips for the track:
- I'd recommend going through the
Forest Path
on the way there (or back) as it connects to the cave anyway and you get a variety of lush forest landscapes for different birds. - Make sure you pay attention to a sign that says
Limestone Caves
. It will not be facing the direction of travel and if you miss it you'll continue along Lady Carrington Drive instead of going towards the cave/falls. Uloola Firetrail
was fantastic for birdwatching. Would recommend spending more time there especially in the morning.
Highlights:
- Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
- Golden Whistler
- Beautiful Firetail
